Seaside Gardening Club practices their brush strokes!

The Seaside Gardening Club started work today at the Community Garden.

Armed with paint brushes, they made a start at painting the wooden sleepers.....we're not sure if there was more wood stain on the volunteers or on the sleepers!

The metal dolphins had a good rub down with a wire brush and the first coat of paint applied. What a difference it made.

Thanks to all our enthusiastic volunteers who worked so hard on a sunny afternoon.

The next meeting is being planned for two weeks time, please keep looking out for posters and come along and join us!

Play Day 2009

National Play was celebrated once again this year at Crown Park, Seaside. Play Day is a celebration recognising children's right to play. The theme this year was "Make Time"

There was plenty on offer from den building, junk modelling, face painting, badge making, colouring competitions, football, banner painting to soft play activities in the Tee Pee.

Over 90 children joined us to play accompanied by over 100 adults!!!

There was plenty of imagination and fun at Seaside today......Fantastic!!!!

Many thanks to our Volunteers, Maria, Joe, Mel, Claire, Nia and Holly. Also to Karen from Communities First, PCSO's John Hill and Angela Brown and everyone who came and played with us today!!

We would also like to thank Cllr Winston Lemon who had the difficult task of judging the colouring competition and a special thank you to those who donated items for todays event.

Huge thanks to Llanelli Town Council for their recent kind donation of £100 to help cover costs of the event, it is very much appreciated.

All hail the King and the Queen and the Rose Queen and the Fairy Queen and Prince Charming.........

That's right, Seaside's Carnival Royalty has been crowned!

Seaside is THE place to be this August Bank Holiday Monday, and all Kings, Queens, Princes and Fairies wanted to be named Carnival Royalty and have pride and place at the front of the parade.

Well done to all the winners, and well done to everyone who entered, it's not easy standing and talking in front of everyone!

Thank you to everyone who helped out and also to our judges, Cllrs John Jones, Winston Lemon and also Caroline from Riptide Youth Club held at Antioch, who had the very difficult job of chosing the winners.

If you would like to help out at this year's carnival, please call in to Seaside Community Association's Office based at St. John's Vestry, Druce St.

Inspired by the recent threatened paddling pool closures, local resident Elaine Roberts, of Bryn Road has written the following poem :-

Making a Splash !

Summer is here and life is a breeze,
A time for us kids to do as we please,
The holidays are coming and what with six weeks off school,
We’ll enjoy having fun in the paddling pool.

It’s somewhere we can go, it’s just down the street,
We’ll play there for hours, for us it’s a treat,
Keeping ourselves cool in the heat of the day,
When the sun is so hot, too hot to play.

Water to a child is quite an attraction,
Something must be done, it’s time to take action,
But there’s only one rule in the heat of the day,
They can’t take our pool, it’s the heart of our play.

It’s there that we gather and have the most fun,
It don’t cost a penny, to get plenty of sun,
We all play together, we’re a really great bunch,
And when we get hungry, we head home for lunch.

It brings back such memories now the years have passed by,
How on hot summer days we there used to lie,
It seemed much too far to walk to the beach,
When I was a child it seemed way out of reach.

But we’d play in the pool, we’d be cleaner than clean,
Cooling ourselves down with a lovely ice-cream,
We’d stay there for hours, wouldn’t want to go home,
We’d all tell our mothers to leave us alone.

Day after day, we’d do the same thing,
We never got bored as we swam and jumped in,
Sometimes our families would join in the fun,
After all their chores and housework were done.

So please don’t take away the freedom we had,
Of the little things in life that made us so glad,
For you once were kids, with a childhood like us,
We don’t want any trouble, we don’t want a fuss.

We’re the kids of Seaside with a park and a pool,
Which is run by the Council and with that we’re quite cool,
We don’t want any stories about funding or cash,
We just thought it was time, we were ‘making a splash’.

We needed our Wellies!!!

Last Saturday, Maria and Joe went along to the Guide Dogs for the Blind Fundraising Event at People's Park to try and raise some funds for the Family Forum. However, the rain came down, and down, and down, and down some more until we needed a pump to empty the gazebo!!

With the gazebo leaking and the rain not letting up, we decided to call it a day early and head home for dry clothes and a hot cuppa!

Junk Modelling with a serving of Curry?

The Family Forum helped the Women's Only Group celebrate International Families Day today at the Antioch Centre. We went along armed with junk, more junk and even more junk!

We painted faces, helped children decorate glass jars and enjoyed watching the delightful Belly Dancer, Bollywood Dancer, Nepalese Dancers and Korean Dancers.

And just to tickle our tastebuds there was a selection of curries on offer........mmmmm delicious.

The children made crowns, vases and anything their imaginations helped create.

Well done everyone!!
